Invited panellist at the CyberConnect Canberra discussion titled “How do we advance R&D in Australia’s cyber ecosystem?” alongside Susan Travis, David Masters, and Mike Zimmerman. The event brought together leaders from academia, industry, government, and the cyber security community to explore strategies for strengthening Australia's cyber research, innovation, and sovereign capability.Contributed expert perspectives on the role of universities in advancing Australia's cyber ecosystem through cyber workforce development, research translation, industry collaboration, and innovation. The discussion highlighted Australia's strong cyber research capability and international reputation while identifying opportunities to strengthen pathways that translate research into operational capability, commercial outcomes, and scalable innovation.
Key contributions included discussions on building the cyber talent pipeline, strengthening collaboration between academia, industry, and government, supporting SMEs and critical infrastructure organisations, developing flexible learning pathways through micro-credentials and short courses, and addressing emerging challenges including AI-enabled cyber threats, cyber threat intelligence, and post-quantum cyber security.
The panel emphasised the importance of connecting research, talent, capital, policy, and industry to strengthen Australia's cyber resilience, innovation ecosystem, and sovereign cyber capability. This engagement enhanced the visibility of the University of Canberra's cyber security expertise and contributed to national discussions on cyber research, workforce development, and innovation policy.
