I was invited to present this lecture, based on my analysis of the art and culture grants in the 2000–01 ACT Archives.
Dignitaries present included: The Minister for the Arts, Ms Tara Cheyne MLA; Ms Liesl Centenera, Chair, Territory Records Advisory Council; Former Chief Minister for the ACT Gary Humphries; Federal Member for Bean, David Smith MP; and Chair of the Minister’s Creative Council, Ms Genevieve Jacobs.
Drawing on historical records of ACT Government arts grants, I discussed the importance of the arts to our communities, its contribution to community, personal and economic wellbeing, the potential and risks of the creative industries in the ACT, and the impact of the pandemic on artists.
