Dr Abu Barkat Ullah served as an external examiner for the Honours Final thesis titled “The Effectiveness of Tech Support Fraud in Damaging Older Individuals’ Financial Security” submitted to Edith Cowan University, School of Science (December 2024).
The thesis examined the social engineering tactics used in tech-support fraud targeting individuals over 65 years of age, using qualitative interviews and validation with cyber-security professionals. The research identified confusion, trust exploitation, and financial vulnerability among older adults, highlighting the need for improved awareness and training initiatives.
