Principals have a unique view of the needs of students in schoolyard spaces. They are leaders in how schoolyards are designed and retrofitted. It’s clear from our engagement so far that we must effectively engage with principals for our research to be a success. As one Principal put it: “design with us not for us”. Through this presentation and follow-up discussion, the Greenprint team engaged with secondary school principals from the Illawarra region about what is working in schoolyards, what is not, and the constraints that schoolyard designs needs to work within.
