Great research makes a difference where it matters most – in communities.

    Description

Two UC researchers, Yogi Vidyattama and Dr Benjamin Vu, have been involved in the development of a new tool that brings together social and geographic data to support smarter planning, stronger collaboration and more targeted support for communities before and after disasters.

The Risks, Vulnerability, Assets (RiVA) Mapping Tool & Data Dashboard, developed in collaboration with the NSW Council of Social Service (NCOSS), is an interactive platform that helps organisations and governments better understand local disadvantage, disaster risk and service availability.

The UC team helped develop the tool using ArcGIS, a professional geographic information system (GIS) platform that lets people map, analyse and visualise data tied to real-world locations, and compiled the data that powers the RiVA Data Dashboard.
