Biography

Dr. Angela Tan-Kantor is an Assistant Professor in Financial Accounting (Lecturer) at the University of Canberra (UC). She is an academic, researcher, and lecturer with expertise at the intersection of Accounting, Banking, & Finance, with a strong focus on public sector work and real-world applications, both in Australia and internationally. Angela is an Accountant by profession. She holds professional memberships as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), and a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

Angela's PhD was the first in Australia to study the link between asset valuation (measurement) and water utility pricing, and it created a framework that has helped regulators, practitioners, and academics.

Angela possesses a unique combination of experience in higher education and the Accounting, Banking, & Finance industry. She has taught many undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Accounting & Finance, both in Australia and internationally. Angela is dedicated to inclusive and culturally responsive teaching and learning. She is multilingual, speaking Chinese, Indonesian, and Malay. She strives to create supportive classrooms that respect diversity and help students achieve success.

As a research supervisor, Angela currently guides several PhD, DBA, and honours students, encouraging them to publish their work, attend conferences, and develop professionally.

Angela enjoys travel and world affairs. Her passion and interest lie in bridging theory and practice, whether through research, teaching, learning, or collaboration, to strengthen accounting & financial systems and improve outcomes for students, institutions, and communities.
