Biography

Deborah joined the university in 2014 as a Centenary Research Professor in the News & Media Research Centre. She is the author/co-author of 16 books and over 160 book chapters and journal articles, and has edited five other books. Her research is interdisciplinary, spanning sociology and media and cultural studies. Deborah is the leader of the Smart Technology Living Lab. She sits on nine journal editorial boards, and is one of the leaders of the Digital Data & Society Consortium and the Children's Digital Futures Consortium. Over her career, her research has focused on the sociocultural dimensions of health and medicine; risk; embodiment; digital technologies; the emotions; food; parenting; and childhood. Her current research addresses the role of digital technologies in various social domains, including health and medicine, food production and consumption, and education.
