Biography

Dinesh Kaphle is an education and research focused lecturer in the Discipline of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Canberra. He is also an adjunct associate lecturer at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of New South Wales.

Dinesh Kaphle completed Bachelor of Optometry from Tribhuvan University, Nepal and Master of Optometry by Research from the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, and Master of Public (Community Eye Health) from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Recently, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy from the Queensland University of Technology.  His doctoral research investigated accommodation errors in myopia over time with multifocal spectacles using a randomized controlled trial. 

He has several years of experience working as a clinical optometrist in Malawi and Nepal, and as a lecturer in optometry at the Malawi College of Health Sciences, the country’s first optometry school established with support from the Brien Holden Vision Institute, Optometry Giving Sight, and Sightsavers.

During his PhD, he worked as a sessional academic at the Queensland University of Technology and received accreditation as the Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (Advance HE).

He has research interests in myopia control particularly with multifocal spectacles, low vision and blindness, and quality of life-related to refractive errors.
