Dr Fahad Hussain is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Information Technology and Systems, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Canberra. He is working on the clinical trials of a Novel robot for ankle neurorehabilitation. This rehabilitation robot will help treat patients with differing disability levels by using an artificial intelligence (AI) based approach. The patient trials will be held at Central coast neurorehab center, Newcastle, NSW. This research project is funded by Australia's Economic Accelerator (AEA) Ignite grant.
Dr Hussain's research interests include assistive and rehabilitation robotics, compliant actuation of robots, robot mechanism design and optimization, human-robot physical interaction using artificial intelligence, and biomechanical modelling. He obtained his PhD degree from University of Canberra in 2024. His PhD research project was funded by Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship. His doctoral research was focused on developing a light weight and high strength underactuated lower limb robot exoskeleton for gait rehabilitaion. During and after his PhD, he worked as a sessional lab tutor for various robotics and AI courses at University of Canberra. Before coming to Australia as a PhD student, he did masters by research degree (MSC) in Mechanical and Materials engineering from National University of Malaysia (UKM). His master's research was focused on high temperature fatigue life analysis of aluminium alloy AA6061. After graduating with a B.Sc. Eng. degree in Metallurgy and Materials engineering from University of the Punjab, Pakistan, he worked as senior engineer in a steel manufacturing industry.
