Biography

Dr Geoffrey Nicoll’s primary academic and research interests lie in the fields of corporate law and governance, and securities and financial services law.

These areas of primary expertise have been applied and extended in his writing for projects in a) corporate and public sector governance, b) comparative corporations, markets and securities law in China and Australia, and c) the development of a universal pension fund in Bangladesh.

His present work concerns the regulation of corporate ownership and control in monitoring foreign investment in Australian entities, businesses and land under the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act 1975.

Dr Nicoll is presently a member of the Foreign Investment Committee of the Law Council of Australia. He was an appointed member of the ministerial advisory committee, the Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee CAMAC (2008-14); a member of the Business Advisory Committee of the Australian Securities and Investment Commission ASIC (2009-12)  and a member of the national executive of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia (2002-13).

At the University of Canberra, he was the Acting Head of the Law School in 2005 and the Academic Director of the National Institute for Governance (2003-6).
