Biography
Dr Janet Fulton is a Research Fellow at the News & Media Research Centre at the University of Canberra. Janet’s research interests include creativity and cultural production, journalism, journalism education, media entrepreneurship and work-integrated learning.
Janet has co-authored books in these areas including The Creative System in Action: Understanding Cultural Practice and Production (2016), Educating for Creativity within Higher Education (2018), Creative Industries Entrepreneurship: How Innovative Agents, Skills and Networks Interact (2023) and Creativity and Creative Industries in Regional Australia: Interconnected Networks, Shared Knowledge and Choice Making Agents (2024). She has also published chapters, journal articles and conference presentations.
As a Research Fellow, Janet provides research support to other members of the Centre that has included work on several ARC projects – Heartbeat of Australia: Tracking, understanding and engaging news audiences, The rise of mistrust: Digital platforms and trust in news media and New approaches measuring Australia’s creative workforce: Beyond the Census – as well as projects on diversity, climate change, reporting on child sexual abuse, media literacy and political misinformation.
Janet’s research expertise is primarily qualitative with experience in interviews, observation, document analysis and focus groups.
