Biography

Dr Joel Bennett is a Lecturer of Digital Media in the Faculty of Arts and Design at University of Canberra (UC) with a teaching and research focus in Media Production and Game Development. With over a decade of experience in higher education, Joel has delivered and led a wide array of undergraduate programs including Game Design, Digital Media, Animation, and Visual Communication. In these programs Joel has advocated for authentic and transformative learning experiences using innovative simulated work environments, overseas study tours, advanced practical workshops, 24hr digital design challenges, and the continued adoption of emerging production technology. 

Before his time as a researcher and educator, Joel worked as a freelance digital artist and motion capture technician working on projects for small businesses, indie game developers, national media companies, and international research partners. Furthermore, Joel maintains his passion in creative arts by pursuing small freelance projects and contributing to research in educational design, game studies, media studies, motion capture, photogrammetry, virtual production, virtual technologies, 3d visualisation, and generative AI.
