Biography
Luise is an epidemiologist and emerging health systems sustainability researcher. She joined the Health Systems Resilience and Sustainability Theme of the NHMRC Healthy Environments and Lives (HEAL) National Research Network as a Research Fellow in 2022 after completing her PhD at the University of Sydney. She is now leading the development of the HEAL Indicators for the HEAL Network, with the aim to provide relevant and accessible information to help Australian individuals and organisations respond to climate and environmental change. Her current research focus is on projects to decarbonise healthcare sector carbon hotspots including respiratory inhalers (funded by a HEAL Innovation Grant) and volatile anaesthetic gasses.
Luise is also a Research Fellow with the Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney and was a core team member of the academic partner to the NSW Net Zero Leads program, providing research support to clinicians on research projects to decarbonise clinical care.
Her research expertise includes the design of high-quality quantitative studies, randomised trials, longitudinal data analysis, quantitative surveys, systematic scoping reviews and emulated target trials. As a member of the Wiser Healthcare Research Collaboration, Luise not only explores ways to reduce the carbon footprint of healthcare through “green care” (providing clinically equivalent but low carbon alternatives) but also through a focus on “lean care” (reducing low value care and waste), as well as developing indicators to measure this progress.
