Biography
Dr Mark Teoh is a Lecturer in Tourism and Event Management and received his PhD from Griffith University in 2023. His research explores the intersection of human experience, culture, and emotion in tourism and service contexts, examining how these interactions drive personal change and inform sustainable, inclusive practices. His key research interests include:
- Transformative tourism experiences
- Cultural dynamics in tourism
- Educational travel and mobility
- Emotional labour and well-being in hospitality
- Power and conflict experiences
Dr Teoh’s research advances the understanding of how tourism and hospitality experiences shape human well-being, identity, and social cohesion. He generates insights that inform ethical and sustainable practices in global mobility and service industries. This work supports governments in designing policies that enhance intercultural understanding, workforce resilience, and destination competitiveness. It also provides evidence-based strategies for improving social inclusion and economic sustainability in tourism-dependent communities. Ultimately, his research contributes to creating tourism systems that serve both societal needs and public good.
Engagement and service roles
Dr Teoh currently serves as an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Vacation Marketing, contributing to the advancement of scholarship in tourism and marketing research. In addition, he is the Discipline Lead for Events and Tourism and the BGL Internships Coordinator within the Faculty of Business, Government and Law, where he leads curriculum development, industry engagement, and experiential learning initiatives to enhance student employability. These roles reflect his commitment to academic leadership, fostering strong industry partnerships, and supporting the professional development of future graduates.
