Biography
Dr Faraz Hasan is the Director of Research at University of Canberra.
Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Director of Research is responsible for university-wide functions and services in the areas of research grant administration, research performance monitoring and reporting, and research ethics and integrity. Dr Hasan was previously in the same role at University of New England.
Having worked in New Zealand, South Korea and Oman prior to coming to Australia, Dr. Hasan brings internationally diverse academic and research leadership experience to UNE. His ongoing research interests are in broad areas of wireless communication, intelligent transportation systems and energy harvesting. He completed his PhD in disruption tolerant networking from Ulster University, UK, in 2008 on Vice Chancellor’s Research Scholarship. He has led/contributed to research projects worth a total of AU$ 1.7 million to date.
His research work and expert commentary has attracted media coverage, for example in Los Angeles Times, Radio NZ, Newstalk ZB, MoreFM, The Fortune Magazine, Euronews, New Zealand Herald, etc. He has advised and worked with various government departments on a wide range of issues including telecommunications, bioeconomy, science-informed policy making, etc.
Dr Hasan is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy of the UK (Advance HE), has previously been a Distinguished Speaker of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
