Tim BABER

Tim Baber is Lecturer in Teacher Education at the University of Canberra and a PhD candidate in the University of Melbourne’s Learning Environments Applied Research Network (LEaRN). With more than 25 years’ classroom experience and a background in landscape architecture, Tim is keenly interested in researching the relationship between school physical environments (with a focus on outdoor environments) and child and adolescent development. His PhD research investigates adolescent students’ place relationships in vertical schools to examine how these new learning environments impact their development. As Lecturer at UC, Tim is excited to share his teaching experience with early-career educators while continuing his research into learning environments. Tim is a member of the Environmental Design Research Association’s Children Youth Environment (EDRA CYE) network committee and Learning Environments Australasia. His published collaborations with A/Prof Ben Cleveland highlight the importance of biophilic elements in schools. These include: ‘Biophilic design and Innovative Learning Environments: A wellbeing relationship around the Pedagogical Core’ and 'Biophilia and adolescents’ sense of place in Australian vertical schools’.
