Project Details
Description
Since the early 1990s, there has been a rapid expansion in Australia's offerings of creative arts research degrees. 8 universities offered such degrees n 1994. Today most of the 38 do so. THere is, however, no consensus within the creative research field, whether locally or internationally, as to what 'substantial contribution to knowledge' art in fact makes. The project involves interviews with creative arts academics throughout Australia, to see how they deal with the problem on the ground. This interview data will serve to augment ongoing research into the question of art's contribution to knowledge, and so provide the basis for a 2008 ARC grant application.
