Project Details
Description
This project aims to build on the existing strengths within the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia's (AHCSA) member services in providing support, services and referrals. Aboriginal community-controlled health services (ACCHS) are often the first place that Aboriginal men turn to for information, support and referrals. However, this is also often too late, infrequent or at later stages of illness. By establishing a socially attractive gathering space, a Male Health Shed, dedicated to males where Aboriginal art, social and cultural activities can be practiced, it is aimed to focus on men’s behavioural change to promote smoking cessation and preventative health. The program will be implemented in two remote communities and evaluated through a realist mixed method evaluation design.
