AllOffBall

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Our program goal is twofold 1. To provide a safe space for ACT LGBTIQ+ people to participate in football and 2. To build capacity and allyship to facilitate safe places for LGBTIQ+ members of our community to participate in sport’. These goals are embodied in our project name in which the ‘All’ represents our desire to create a safe activity space for everyone; while the ‘Off Ball’ acknowledges that much of the behaviour we strive to change happens away from the game. Our collective sporting knowledge also tells us that in any football match, the success of a team is also largely down to decisions made by players without possession of the ball. Thus, our program highlights how exclusion affects all community members and not just those ‘with the ball,’ and accordingly adapts a team approach to promote LGBTIQ+ inclusion among diverse groups of young people.
