The Department of Employment recently invested in the development of a multi-platform mobile phone application “Jobfit.” The aim of Jobfit is to create greater awareness of employment barriers, and to promote self-directed actions that would improve employment outcomes. Applications such as Jobfit have an important role to play in more democratized employment services, and can promote greater accountability through the effective use of self-service technologies. Importantly, such technologies may pave the way for exciting new self-service delivery models. At the request of the Department of Employment, a research team with membership from the Australian National University (ANU) and the University of Canberra (UC) will provide advice and support with the proposed evaluation of the Jobfit application.
