Description
Aim: To quantify differences in real-world air pollution exposure and thermal comfort across different commute modes in Inner West Sydney corridor (e.g., car, bus, train, walking or cycling) and examine relationships between exposure/thermal comfort and self-reported symptoms, stress and perceived wellbeing, generating preliminary evidence to inform transport planning and health policy.
Primary objective: To measure and compare real-world personal PM2.5 exposure and thermal comfort across five commute modes in the Inner West corridor using portable sensors and relate these integrated exposure profiles to self-reported symptoms, stress, and perceived wellbeing.
Secondary objectives:
1.To examine the relationships between commute-mode air pollution exposure (PM2.5) and thermal comfort (PMV/PPD) with self-reported respiratory and irritation symptoms, as well as perceived stress and overall wellbeing.
2.Develop mode-specific exposure-comfort profiles by combining quantitative PM exposure and thermal indices with qualitative commuter narratives.
3.Identify mode-specific exposure and comfort metrics suitable for public and policy communication.
4.Develop concise visual evidence summaries (like infographics and factsheets) integrating air quality and thermal comfort insights for the public as well as transport and health agencies.
