Investigation of the resource needs of private schools in Australia

In its 1999 Federal Budget, the Commonwealth government installed a new funding system - the SES- based scheme - that changed the way in which the resource needs of private schools were assessed. This research will analysis the impact of the policy change in terms of equity, efficiency, transparency and accountability. Drawing on new data about the operation resources of private schools, the research will make a valuable contribution to public debate on school funding policy. As a major participant in national education debates, the Australian Education Union will rely on this research to inform its position on funding policy issues.
