AIM
The aim of this proposal is to design the ACT Play Value Index to fulfil Action 5 of the Better Spaces to Play: ACT Play Space Strategy 2020 – 2040: Assess play value and use this to improve delivery and maintenance of play spaces.
KEY TERMS
Play value is the value that a play space – its equipment, amenity and environment – contributes to the experience of play. Play value is important because it introduces a user-centred view of play spaces.
Play Value Index: a benchmarking tool that identifies the play value at a suburb and district level. The purpose of this tool is to:
• Incorporate community aspirations for play into the maintenance and planning process;
• Complement asset-based safety audits;
• Help the ACT Government better distribute and improve the play experiences across the ACT play space network.
