Project Details

Description

This proposal will for the first time, systematically address the prevalence of known and novel treatable traits for asthma in pregnancy, assess treatable trait priorities from a patient and clinician perspective and address the feasibility of a treatable trait-based precision medicine approach in the antenatal care setting. This directly addresses the objective of Stream 1, to develop treatable trait-based precision medicine approach for chronic respiratory disease. By focusing on pregnancy, our approach has the potential to not only improve the health of mothers with asthma, by reducing exacerbations, but also to alter the trajectory of health for their child, by reducing future asthma risk in the offspring. As world leaders in this field, our team is uniquely positioned to conduct this multi-disciplinary research, and this proposal represents a crucial step towards understanding which treatable traits are most clinically relevant in pregnancy, to inform implementation approaches. This addresses the intended outcome of the grant scheme by supporting implementation of new individualised approaches for improving asthma disease assessment, treatment, and outcomes.
