Validation of a novel skin antibiotic for the treatment of impetigo

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

•Impetigo (skin sores) is a highly contagious childhood infection. It affects 162 million vulnerable children globally at any one time. In Australia, impetigo affects ~50% of Aboriginal Children -its secondary complications collectively kill between 5–30% of the affected individuals.

•In an international first, our research will fast-track the drug development process for impetigo by validating the efficacy and safety of a proprietary, innovative antimicrobial skin formulation in pre-clinical studies. This work will generate the vital empirical data required for patent applications, product commercialisation and subsequently human clinical trials.
