Description
This scholarship paid to the University of Canberra will be used to fund an honours student stipend. The stipend is to be paid to the student conducting a project examining alternative monitoring methods for the Bare-nosed Wombat. The funded honours student project will aim to test the effectiveness of various technologies for the remote detection of bare-nosed wombat burrows, including but not limited to, aerial based LiDAR (ACT Government, 2020), drone-based LiDAR (if
available) and drone-based imagery. The technologies will be deployed and analysed in a range of habitats and vegetation types in the ACT where wombat populations are found. The effectiveness of each remote detection methods will be verified
through ground-truthing.
