Abstract

This paper explores the integration of spatial reasoning into middle school mathematics, using the topic of perfect square numbers and square roots as a focal example. The authors demonstrate how this mathematical concept can be spatialised to enhance students’ understanding and engagement. The use of visual representations supports students in recognising numerical patterns and grasping the distributive property, moving beyond procedural approaches. The paper argues that embedding spatial reasoning into instruction offers educators innovative strategies to develop more intuitive and inclusive learning environments, ultimately supporting diverse learners and fostering mathematical insight.
