Abstract
This paper is the edited transcript of a conversation between Cath Raby (Research
Students Office) and Jen Webb about an administrator’s perspective of the process of
examining creative arts doctoral theses. Cath has been central to the process since 2000,
and has overseen the carriage of examination for creative arts theses in design,
architecture, media production, sound production, creative writing and visual art. Cath
explains the ‘fit’ between these theses and those in more conventional forms, and
speculates on the value of creative arts doctorates to candidates and the institution.
