title = "Co-creating knowledge, policy, and practice: A call to advance Water Policy Lab process",
abstract = "Numerous scientific reports have established that the water future of humanity and the entire earth system is at risk. Solving contested water problems require new ways of harnessing dialogues, reflections, empathy, research, and visions. Too often, water policies and practices tend to take shortcuts, missing out on the benefits these powerful social learning processes can bring towards water justice and sustainability. This editorial presents a Water Policy Lab approach to initiate dialogue among those who are concerned with this dual crisis—of escalating water insecurity and knowledge not being linked well to water policy and practice.",

note = "Funding Information: The overall idea of Water Policy Lab presented in this paper is based on IFSD (2021). We appreciate comments from CEDAR India and SIAS Nepal team including Dil Khatri on the draft version. We thank this Journal editors Jef Camkin and Susana Neto for the invitation to write this editorial and providing their comments on the draft. Funding Information: Another example relates to improving forest governance in Nepal, presented by Ojha et al. ( 2019 ). It was designed and tested in the context of the project called “Enhancing Livelihoods and Food Security from Agroforestry and Community Forestry in Nepal”, abbreviated as EnLiFT. It was a collaborative project supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and implemented by Australian universities and non‐governmental research groups based in partnership with the Government of Nepal. The research team contextualized the idea of a Policy Lab and termed it EnLiFT Policy Labs, further abbreviated to EPL. Six EPL events were conducted during 2014–2019 on different forest policy issues, using an evidence‐informed discussion practice to develop policy solutions to emerging issues, through collaborative inquiry between researchers, communities, and policy actors.
