Cybersecurity and Australian Medical Practice: Emerging Themes from Research Survey

In the current age of interconnectivity with constant evolving cybersecurity landscape and increasing cyber threats, medical clinics need robust cybersecurity to secure the vast amounts of sensitive patient data held. Emerging themes of this research into the cybersecurity practice of Australian medical clinics within the greater Australian Capital Territory region revealed there remains a significant gap in their cybersecurity awareness, process and governance. Mitigating human error is key, if not the top priority, to improve cybersecurity. Medical clinics should reduce human error with effective mitigation strategies: instituting cybersecurity awareness, training and governance such policies, procedures and standards to instil a secure cybersecurity culture to create a human firewall to protect their systems and information from cyber threats and attacks. These initial findings contribute to the literature on cybersecurity and medical practice which hitherto has been unexplored.
