    Abstract

A poem by 17th Century Haiku master Yosa Buson, translated by Paul Magee and Yuko Kinoshita in the course of our research project exploring the use of sound symbolism in poetry (Jakobson 1959; Attrdige 1983; Ford 2021) via attempts to translate not just the semantic dimensions of a poem but also the poem's sonic landscape. The effect of these investigations has been to underline the gestural dimension of poetic prosody (Kendon 1995, read through Ford 2021).
