Abstract

Who is vandalising the bush tucker garden at Yirra's school? Could it be Yirra's best friend, the husky dog Demon? Or will Demon save the day?
Yarning Strong aims to reach out and engage all young people - both indigenous and non-indigenous - and deepen their awareness and understanding of what it is really like to be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person living in contemporary Australia. The series provides explicit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's perspectives, which has long been considered best pedagogical practice for schools.Yarning Strong offers a comprehensive and accessible resource that educators can use without fear of causing offence or perpetuating inaccurate stereotypes. Yarning Strong has been developed for the upper years of primary school and is also suitable for the first two years of secondary school. The series includes four modules: Identity, Family, Law and Land. Each module includes one anthology, three fiction books and one graphic novel
