Abstract
We appreciate the opportunity to discuss this review paper. We fully agree with the authors that there is a growing interest in the Birnbaum‐Saunders (BS) distribution and related results. Indeed, many important applications are found not only in lifetime data analysis, biological, reliability, and engineering but also in financial, insurance, environmental, medical, and various other areas.
The review is a wonderful account of the studies on the BS distribution and related results and especially the many recent developments since the work of Leiva.1 It thoroughly covers the fundamental background and concepts. A number of examples for real‐world data to fit the univariate and multivariate BS distributions are presented. Through the review, particularly the Concluding Remarks and Further Reading, a few promising open problems are addressed, and a significant number of publications on applications are discussed.
Below, we will briefly touch on some additional results related to the BS distribution, regression modeling, estimation, and diagnostic issues.
