Abstract
There is need of a framework for entrepreneurial enterprise, and endeavour, that has inherent flexibility and dynamic properties. For the practitioner in the entrepreneurial arena, dealing with uncertainty and risk, amidst economic, technological, and social disruption the ability to conceptualise and engage with change across societal fragmentation is beneficial to business processes. This is especially required in terms of strategizing, planning and the development of the firm, or organisation, as it constructs internal culture and projects that it has a distinct ethos in the market.
With its genesis as a study of an independent screen production company (the exploratory company) this entrepreneurship research is based upon the pioneering investigations of tangible and intangible assets of the firm as discovered during Edith Penrose’s mid-twentieth century examination of a firm from within. This pioneering Penrosian perspective provides the theoretical foundation upon which the Parabolic Scramble emerges, from an embedded research study of an enterprise, to demonstrate how the exploratory company develops its organisational learning in
the market-place, and the entrepreneurial arena.
The methodology, in the early stages, utilised action learning research assisted by a grounded theoretical approach, and through the researcher’s interactions with a pedestrian scramble crossing in the city of Adelaide, South Australia, the framework of the Parabolic Scramble emerged. The Parabolic Scramble developed adaptively from a conceptual to a practical application for the entrepreneur, entrepreneurial organisation or enterprise, or anyone seeking through organisational learning to follow alternative pathways to an established norm.
