Abstract
Introduction: According to a correct Mental Health planning, to know the hospital assistance load derived from the psychiatric admissions is required. Thus, we studied the psychiatric hospitalization reality in Spain. Objective: To analyse the psychiatric hospitalization episodes in Spain, and its clinical and social-demographic variables associated. Material and methods: Epidemiologic descriptive study of the morbidity in psychopathology hospitalization, within an ecological design. The analysis of all the psychiatric admissions in the National Health System Hospitals (SNS) for the year 2002 was effected (69,413 admissions), using the Minimum Basic Data Set at Hospital Discharge (CMBDAH) and Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG's), as sources of information. Results and discussion: Differences in terms of sex are showed (mainly, psycho-pathologic and hospital stay), and the diversity as for assistance load and for the management of the hospitalization episodes conducted by the different autonomous regions is noted, by means of multivariate indicators.
