Abstract
There is a 30% of subjects with Mental Retardation (MR) which present a dual diagnosis. Mentally retarded subjects and with severe psychiatric illness frequently use common assistance and social services. However, the psychological assessment of both groups is carried out by different instruments, which difficults both the comparison as well as the adequate allocation of resources. Instruments used in assessing psychiatric population fulfill a quality criterion much greater than their equivalent developed for MR. The reliability of the Social Behaviour Schedule (SBS) Spanish version is assessed in subjects with MR in the labor means. An inter-rater, test-retest and inter-informant of the SBS reliability analysis was made in a total sample of 64 MR subjects, obtaining adequate levels in the first two parameters and none in the third one. The low inter-informant agreement is considerED to be attributed to the mean characteristics more than to the mental handicap. The study of assessment instruments usefulness common to MR and severe mental illness should be extended to other psychosocial assessment areas.
