Abstract

Plants have a ubiquitous presence in our environment, and it is inescapable that in some shape of form, they will be associated with scenes of crimes, victims, and offenders. The examination of plants in forensic context involves the examination of plants in field settings (environment), to trace quantities in unusual settings such as gastric contents. Hence, the challenge is unique and necessarily involves specialists from numerous sub disciplines. This article briefly explores some of the applications of forensic botany and offers guidance in the forensic aspects to applying botanical expertize.
