    Abstract

    This chapter focuses on health activism and presents historical accounts where health activism played an important role, such as in the great London smog and the medical campaign to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons. Health activism in the 19th century and the importance of medical journals in promoting new, reforming and humanitarian ideas are described. Health activism in relation to climate change as well as barriers and solutions are discussed.
