Introduction to: The Language in My Tongue

    Abstract

The poetry selected for this volume was chosen for its quality and diversity. We approached eminent poets and some rising stars in Australian and New Zealand poetry, selecting poems that thrilled and moved us. In making this selection, we were aware that, as an artform, poetry is protean and often gesturing in many directions at once. We looked for metaphorical complexity and verbal sophistication, and for poems that speak widely about contemporary experience.
