Abstract

This paper reviews the development of Communication Studies in Australian Universities and surveys recent Australian research in the field. What topics are examined? What methodologies are used? To what extent does the research reflect national preoccupations? How has Cultural Studies influenced Communication research? This analysis forms the basis for an assessment of the current state of the field in Australia. Areas discussed include mass communication, cultural studies, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication and organizational communication
