    Abstract

The ways in which audiences engage and interact with news has flourished thanks to the proliferation of digital platforms (Park, Fisher, Lee, et al. 2020). Our ever-changing media environment has led both researchers and practitioners to investigate various forms of news engagement and their social ramifications. An important element of democratic life, after all, is news engagement (Tenenboim and Kligler-Vilenchik 2020). As such, the concept has become a core topic of discussion among news audience scholars (Batsell 2015; Ha et al. 2018; Hiaeshutter-Rice and Weeks 2021; Kümpel 2019; Napoli 2011; Nelson 2019; Sang et al. 2020; Steensen, Ferrer-Conill, and Peters 2020).
