    Abstract

This study investigates the impact of self-paced autonomous teaching strategies compared to traditional learning approaches on student performance during and beyond the pandemic (2020-2022). Focusing on Introductory Statistics unit with mixed delivery modes, we explore the effectiveness of innovative online teaching methods, including interactive lectures, Excel learning tools, and peer learning sessions, both in response to pandemic-related challenges and in post-pandemic teaching environments. Despite the abrupt temporary transition to online learning in 2020 due to the lockdown, self-paced autonomous learning approaches fostered resilience and improved academic performance. In 2021, the introduction of a new online version of the unit in response to the interstate and international travel restrictions, along with significant improvements in student outcomes, highlights the benefits of flexible learning strategies. This study underscores the value of contrasting traditional fixed learning approaches with self-paced autonomous learning methods to enhance student engagement and success in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
