Abstract

The Collins English dictionary defines integrity as follows: 1. Adherence to moral principles; honesty 2. The quality of being unimpaired; soundness 3. Unity; wholeness. When either an individual or a group do not act 'in accordance with the principles of conduct that are considered correct', that is, in an ethical manner, their integrity is at the very least compromised and they may be seen to be corrupt. Corruption does not necessarily mean that bribery or even dishonest practices must be involved. Ethical behaviour also includes acting in accordance with the conduct and principles of a given profession or group.
