Abstract

Debate continues widely on the type of gamete donors to be recruited and payment of fees or expenses (e.g. Craft, 1997; Gazvani et al., 1997; Johnson, 1997a,b; Pennings, 1997; Sauer, 1997a,b). The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) in the UK in its latest annual report (1997) is still pressing to ban payments other than verifiable expenses. The HFEA already prefers oocyte donors to have children of their own, and would like the same of sperm donors.
