Abstract

Reverting to Type 2020 was an exhibition of letterpress artwork with something to say. The project showcased progressive letterpress artwork from 100 artists from 17 countries. As well as championing causes of urgent importance and celebrating the diversity of the global letterpress community, it was an opportunity to elevate lesser-heard voices. The exhibition was a visual riot, sounding a warning signal about the global climate crisis, railing against fake news and surveillance capitalism, calling out racism and sexism, fighting for equal opportunities and, of course, reacting to the global pandemic. Although Covid-19 lockdown restrictions limited the amount of visitors to the gallery, the content was made available through online broadcasts and the exhibition’s social media pages.
