Abstract
The expression “role of the private sector in sustainable development” refers to the role of for-profit organizations in the creation, adoption, development, and execution of public policies that promote environmental, social, and economic aims. The private sector has a critical role in sustainable development in general and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular (UN General Assembly 2015). Arguments in support the active role of the private sector in sustainable development include the improvement of innovation and technology, the provision of resources and jobs, the adoption of sustainable business models, the significance of the private sector in addressing environmental issues, and the capability, know-how, leadership.
