Abstract
This essay is a reflection on the life and achievements of a single Dutch architect emigrant, Anthony de Witt (originally Anthonie de Wit. 1854-1916, ). His life differs to those of the later second wave of Dutch professional immigrants to the ZAR, for reasons revealed in this essay. De Wits story is one of a unique individual of particular personal circumstances.
