Abstract

Writing this book review was a pleasure but, more importantly, it gave me an opportunity to revisit the corridors of power and politics in Pakistan. As stated in the extended preface, the play was commissioned in 1985 but did not make it to the screen due to libel risks feared by the BBC. It sets the tone of the book and displays the tension among expatriate Pakistani writer and Western counterparts on the authenticity of claims and interpretation of local events expressing the axiety of an insider on the ligitimacy of an outsider's narratives.
