The Frequently Forgotten Pediatrics: Their Safety in the Clinical Setting

Abstract

Patient safety is a major priority for all healthcare professions and is broadly conceptualised prevention of harm to patients. Radiography is an integral part of pediatric health care. This population group apart from been vulnerable is also highly susceptible to carconegic risks as they are more radiosensitive and have a longer life span to show manifestations. The inherent dilemma is the tricky characteristics of this vulnerable population group in determining radiation dose versus image quality. Blind adherence to protocols and guidelines cannot substitute the exercise of sound based scientific judgement. Which involves diverse role players within and out of the medical imaging team to make the outcomes of the actual radiographic examination a success.
