Abstract
The anthology has at its heart the idea of community, and of poetry being a gift that is shared and received. Decades of evidence point to thhe ways in which poetry can provide comfort and solace to people experiencing distress and who may be feeling
isolated. The vision for this anthology continues to build on this record, and contributes to a project in which writing and reading poetry are seen as ways to promote, wellbeing through the largesse of poets contributing their work – both poems and personal reflections on the work of poetry in the experience of suffering. The intention is to provide copies of this volume to patients and families waiting in liminal hospital spaces, or residents living in aged care settings, hoping they will feel less alone.
